About DGSM

The amount of elder people in Taiwan has increased dramatically since 1980. The population for people over the age of 65 has increased to 7.09 % in 1992 and 9.7% in 2006. More than 50% of the elder population has some health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. They need someone to take care of them in different ways. Therefore, Meiho University has established the Department of Gerontological Service and Management in 2005. We develop and provide courses that are specialized in elder care service and elder care management.

The elder population in Southern Taiwan is about 26%. 50% of those elderly are farmers who live alone and nearly 40% of elders are disabled. The main goal of our department is to cultivate professionals and to promote the physical, psychological and spiritual well-being of senior adults in their daily life.
